Window Film Care and Maintenance

Before Your Sungate Film Installation

Pre-Installation Inspection
Prior to the installation of your Sungate window film, you and your Sungate dealer should take a moment to inspect all windows. During this pre-installation check, both parties should note any existing issues such as cracked glass, loose panes, or imperfections in the glass or framing. Any decals, alarm system components, or other items that may impact the installation should be discussed and documented in the quote agreement.

Decorations & Window Treatments
Clear all items, including plants and decorative objects, from window sills and the surrounding area. In some cases, window treatments may need to be removed to facilitate the installation process. Discuss this with your Sungate dealer prior to the installation appointment.

Furniture
Ensure furniture that may obstruct access to the windows is temporarily relocated. If you require assistance moving furniture on the day of installation, coordinate with your dealer in advance. Installers will need at least three feet of clear, unobstructed workspace in front of the windows.

Window Film Curing Time

Your Sungate dealer uses a specially formulated mounting solution to apply your window film. While most of the solution is removed during installation, a small amount remains between the film and the glass until the film fully cures. This residual moisture may cause small water bubbles or a slightly cloudy appearance, which is normal and temporary. Once fully cured, your film will be clear and smooth.
Do not attempt to puncture water bubbles during the curing period, as this will damage the film. Such damage is not covered by the warranty.
Cold or cloudy weather may extend the curing time, while warm weather and direct sunlight can speed up the process. If you have concerns about the curing duration, contact your Sungate dealer. Thicker safety and security films may require a longer curing period, potentially up to 6 months in less ideal conditions.

Window Film Care & Maintenance

To ensure the maximum lifespan of your window film, follow these care, cleaning, and maintenance guidelines:

  • Avoid cleaning the film for 30 days post-installation. This allows the specialized adhesive to properly bond with the glass.
  • When cleaning, spray a window cleaner directly onto the glass. Use a clean, soft cloth, high-quality paper towel, or rubber window squeegee, wiping with left-to-right sweeping motions. Afterward, run the cloth or paper towel along the window edges to remove excess moisture and debris.
  • Use common household glass cleaning solutions or plain soapy water. Avoid cleaners containing abrasive materials, such as baking soda.
  • Always clean with a soft cloth, high-quality paper towels, or a window squeegee. Do not use bristle brushes, abrasive scrubbing sponges, or other materials that could scratch the film. Some paper towel brands may be coarse enough to cause fine scratches, which, though subtle at first, can dull the film’s polished appearance over time.
